It has been months!!! The new product has been promoted to the nines. You have had hours and hours of training on it. You are excited because this has the possibility to change your entire field. This can revolutionize the way your customers live their lives.

Then the product launches to all the pomp and circumstance of a wet fart.

Why does this happen so often?

Think about it again. Think about the process and the excitement. Think about how you were waiting forever and ever about this product and how now you know EVERYTHING about it. All the statistics, jargon and technobabble.

And you lost it again.

The fact is you became so obsessed with your product you forgot what is most important.

Too many people fall in love with products, practice their pitch to the point it sticks in their head like an Arianna Grande song. That is not the way to do it.

Focus on what you customer needs, and then see if the product fits. You cannot pitch a product before you know a problem. If you don’t know the problems your customer is having, you cannot advise them on the right product for them.

Ever notice how new product launches tend to fizzle, then when everyone becomes jaded and thinks “this product really only helps people who have problems with ____” things start to pick up again.

There is a reason for that.

Rather than talking about the product like it is the best thing in the world, salespeople spew technobabble to potential customers. That is one of the fastest ways to kill a deal.

Don’t worry about selling the new product, instead focus on selling the right product.
