I remember when I was in the hospital having my first child, I kept saying to myself during my breathing exercises…
It’s only temporary….It’s only temporary….
Like I was a broken record on repeat.
I don’t remember where I learned it from, or maybe I just made it up. But oddly, it helped.
Ever since then, any time I’m going through something rough, or I feel like I may give up because of that little voice I hear “you can’t do it, just give up. It’s ok to give up”. I just play those same words on repeat in my head.
So I just want to take today to remind you, whatever you’re going through. If it’s job searching, going back to school, dealing with the 10,000th mess your kids made… Just remember, all these moments are temporary. Some last a little longer than others, but nothing lasts forever; and if you can just keep reminding yourself that, you’ll get through it.
Just tell that Jimminy Cricket in you hear in your head (or maybe you’ve named it something else), “Thank you for your concern, but I’m ok and I can do it myself.”
As weird as you may think, say those words out loud any time you have those intrusive thoughts and you’ll be surprised how well they actually work.
