Tim, a sales professional, applied for a job at Tompkins, Inc. and received (and accepted) an interview invitation.
The night before the interview, Tim had family over for dinner.
Things were going well until a distant relative brought up a sensitive topic.
Tim’s wife tried to change the subject, but he was not willing to let the situation go.
This led to a huge argument and eventually, Tim kicked everyone out of the house.
After calming down a bit, he realized he had an interview the next morning. For this reason, he rushed to bed. Unfortunately, he had a hard time getting to sleep.
A few hours later, he woke up and rushed to get ready so he wouldn’t be late for the interview.
For some reason, though, he couldn’t shake his feelings regarding the situation from the night before.
Finally, the time came for his interview.
He exchanged pleasantries with the hiring manager, and the interview began.
As questions came his way, Tim was answering them one by one.
Until he stopped.
You see, Tim started to stare off into space, thinking about what happened the night before.
There was an obvious look of disgust on his face, which prompted the hiring manager to ask if he was okay.
After it happened a second time, the hiring manager ended the interview.
While Tim felt bad for how things went, he knew he couldn’t blame anyone but himself.
What’s the point of this story?
