Katja Gersak Hernández – the personal sideI was born in Slovenia, a small green country in the heart of Europe. Even though all my family lives there, I moved to Spain 10 years ago. The choice to move was only natural, my husband, a law adviser here in Barcelona, can only practice in Spain due to each country having its own laws. Leaving my home country was not an easy thing to do, especially with having two children at the time. There comes a point in life, where we need to make important decisions. Nobody can guarantee us that our decisions are the correct ones. I´ve learned at an early age that we regret most of the decisions that we didn’t take. Based on that belief, I decided to pack the suitcases and board a plane to Spain. I do miss my family and friends, but I´ve never regret moving here. Luckily with all of our modern technology nowadays, it allows us to stay connected almost all the time. With a full-time job and four children, it can be a bit challenging to finding enough me time. My organization skills are improving so much since having children. Those skills also help me at work. Ever since I remember, I´ve been interested in doing many different activities. I´ve done a lot of sports in my life. At one point, I was training on alpine skiing, gymnastics, and volleyball all at the same time. Unfortunately, at the age of 16, I broke my knee and my sports career was over. Now, I like to take long walks in nature with hiking and cycling. I often do it with my husband and our children. I´m a positive, open-minded person, who loves meeting people, learning about different cultures, countries. Helping children, poor people and animals in need are somethings I really like doing. Normally I participate by providing food, clothes, toys, furniture and other things that we don´t use, or need anymore. I donate these items to charity organizations like Red Cross, Caritas, or simply give them away directly to the people in need. I also like to help SPN with their nonprofit fundraising efforts. I´m a huge music fan and I love all kinds of music, especially rock, hard rock and some types of power and melodic metal. I also like listening to the sounds of nature and some classical music, especially when I need to relax and rest my mind. The biggest sense of accomplishment and joy I feel is when I´m doing activities with people that I love. Another especially good feeling for me is when I reach my high set goals that required a lot of effort to achieve them. Being able to make a positive difference in somebody´s life and having the people around me appreciate what I do, is my happy place. A few weeks ago, a client that I had not done business with in over 3 years, dropped me a message. The client was just checking in to ask how I was doing while also letting me know about the impact I had made. These kinds of things are priceless to me due to the genuine nature behind the call. It made me smile for a long time! Craig Wasilchak: What makes you tick? What drives you? Katja Gersak Hernández: Ever since I can remember I liked to help people. As I get to know them, it builds a trust that I don’t quite understand, but many people end up asking me for advice about their personal situations. Friends are always telling me that my advice helps them, that they feel happier, inspired and more motivated because of our conversations. Communicating and interacting with people is something I really enjoy doing. I´m truly interested in my friend’s stories, I care and if my experience and advice can help one single person, that makes me really happy.
I feel helping people is my mission, something that makes me happy and I don´t do it for money. I do it because it simply makes me happy. I have a regular job, so that´s an extra that I am doing for my soul.I spent a lot of time with my granny when I was little due to being an only child. When we would visit her friends, I would carefully listen to their conversations and often participate in them about all kind of subjects. It maybe seemed to be a bit strange for a little girl, but I really enjoyed them. People around me were always saying that I´m very mature for my age. My curious nature has led me to read tons of books. Psychology, emotional intelligence, and everything connected to them are my favorite topics. Nonetheless, I also enjoy reading everything about digital marketing, strategy, and other topics that help me improve my skills as a professional businesswoman. I love to create content and in the future, I may even create my own Blog. I like SPN and the ability it gives me to be creative and supportive for the new friends I make on the platform. SPN is a great social media network that helps me gain more views on social media content, build my personal brand, grow my network, meet amazing people and to have fun along the way. I´ve heard that you recently created a group on the SPN site? Yes, I did. It´s called ‘SPN Travellers’ and I´m really proud of it. The group is for all the people that like traveling. Sometimes you are preparing to travel to the new destination and you have some doubts on the way. In this group, we´ll share some tips about destinations, hotels, and interesting places to see. On the other hand, if you’ve already been somewhere and your experience can help somebody, you can share some tips in the group. That´s what win-win is all about. What are your plans for social media in the future? I initially started engaging on LinkedIn, I´ve learned a lot there. Even though I´ll keep growing my network there, SPN has become my favorite platform, because I feel good there, I´m a part of an amazing team and I see a big potential in this project. I´ll explain more about my why to SPN in one of my future articles. Besides those two platforms, I´m planning to implement some others, especially Pinterest, YouTube, and Project help you grow. - Why? Because I really miss her and there are some things that we left untold. I miss listening to her point of view.
